Growing Yoga & Meditation Classes for Kids & Teens

Our 5 year anniversary is just around the corner and we have spent the last few months reflecting on YoKid’s growth rate as we strategically plan for the next five years ahead.

YoKid’s low- and no-cost yoga programs are growing at a remarkable rate.  To date, YoKid has facilitated over 200 programs in the DC Metro area, bringing yoga to more than 2,000 youth.  Since 2007, we have more than doubled our number of programs annually to reach more deserving youth than ever anticipated.

YoKid yoga and meditation classes are held at schools and community centers in collaboration with PTA’s and other nonprofit organizations.  Nonprofit collaborative partners have included, Campagna Center KidsBig Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, YMCA, SCAN of NOVA, Heads Up DC, Kid Power DC, and The Higher Achievement Program.  PTA sponsored enrichment yoga programs are currently offered at public and private schools in Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia.

Based in the City of Alexandria, YoKid currently provides yoga and meditation classes for school-aged children (4-18 years old) in Alexandria, Arlington, & Fairfax County (Virginia).  Maryland YoKid yoga and meditation classes are held in Montgomery and Prince George’s County.  DC YoKid yoga and meditation classes are available throughout the City.

Our vision is yoga for ALL children, so fees are based on a sliding scale to insure that everyone can participate.  Over 2,000 youth have participated in yoga classes through the YoKid program.  Our children need the support of the adults in the community in order to continue to benefit from a program like YoKid.

Over the next 5 years we would like to see YoKid continue to grow with the help of the adult community.   Join our efforts by, initiating a program, becoming a teacher, volunteering a professional skill, initiating an adult wellness program, and/or sponsor a child (or an entire program).  As YoKid’s youth outreach grows, so does our need for responsible dedicated adult supporters.
