YoKid and United Way

YoKid is excited to be a part of the United Way of the National Capital Area (NCA) team as a member of their nonprofit network.  The United Way focuses on improving education, helping people achieve financial stability, and promoting healthy lives.

According to the United Ways 10-year goal plan, “good health allows children to learn better and adults to increase their income through productive work.”  The United Way is a partner in creating strong local relationships to address the prevention of risky behaviors and the root causes of poor health outcomes (Dr. Janet Collins, CDC).  YoKid supports this mission by promoting a healthy lifestyle and by teaching children wellness principles in every yoga class.

For example, the 2013 YoKid Challenge, held in Alexandria, VA last Saturday is a great example of YoKid and our major sponsor, Whole Foods, working together to promote wellness in our community.  Over 250 participants completed 108 sun salutations, exercising their bodies and their minds, and participated in healthy eating lessons with Whole Foods.  We had a great time setting foundations for health and wellness with that unique YoKid style.    YoKid_026YoKid_021  YoKid_035 YoKid_095 YoKid_071YoKid_028 Thanks to all who joined us to participate!
