Why should you become a certified kids yoga teacher with YoKid?
The aim of the YoKid 20-hour Basic Training is to give you the tools you need to effectively teach yoga and meditation to school-aged children. Our practical and informative training will provide you with what you need to teach traditional and non-traditional poses and teach you age appropriate language and methods for creating a fun, yet calming environment for kids. You will also learn effective methods of classroom management and stages of child development in order to modify, differentiate, and make your instruction appropriate for all children.
What will you learn at the YoKid 20-hour Basic Training?
The 20-hour Basic Training includes yoga philosophy and the Yoga Sutras as they pertain to children, asana for the elementary, middle, and high school student, traditional hatha poses, the Ashtanga Teen Series developed by Kino McGregor, yoga games, yoga stories, partner poses, and journaling. In preparation for each training, you need to purchase Eastern Body, Western Mind by Anodea Judith. We also recommend that you purchase The Unadorned Thread by Salvatore Zambito. If you have your own version of the Yoga Sutras, you may bring that in lieu of The Unadorned Thread. You will want to bring a copy of these texts to each YoKid course you attend. Course participants should also bring something to write with and on, yoga mat, water/snacks, and wear comfortable clothing. Think Green! If you will be using an iPad or laptop let us know and we will provide you with an electronic copy of your manual in lieu of a printed copy.
How can you use your training & certification?
All three trainings can be used for CEU’s with Yoga Alliance, staff development requirements for educators in a variety of school districts, and/or to fulfill a 20-hour module requirement in the Radiant Child Family Yoga Certification courses. Our Ambassador Program allows those who complete the YoKid 20-hour Basic Training to partner and teach YoKid programs in their community. The hours can also count towards Yoga Alliance’s 95 hour children’s yoga specialty or 200 hour registration through YoKid or Radiant Child.
