Volunteer with YoKid Today!

YoKid has a variety of ways to get involved, from teaching yoga to kids, interning, or helping with the National Kids Yoga Conference. We need YOUR energy for our organization to thrive and would LOVE to have you join our team of volunteers. Contact Laura at LTashjian@yokid.org or complete an application below to get involved TODAY.

Be a YoKid Yoga Teacher & Mentor

Since 2006, our volunteers have taught more than 950 YoKid programs, introducing yoga and mindfulness to more than 7,600 children and youth in the Greater DC Area.

Children and youth often come to YoKid with experiences of stress, trauma, insecurity, violence and/or poverty. These stressful experiences leave children and youth anxious and vulnerable and can compromise their ability to meet the academic, physical, emotional, and social demands of school. Using yoga and mindfulness techniques, you will teach students to become self-aware, manage their stress, positively develop character traits and ultimately become Empowered, Resilient, Engaged, and Mindful Children and Youth who are connected to themselves, school, and the world around them.  Your dedication and passion as a YoKid teacher is at the heart of what makes this transformation possible for our students.

Every season YoKid accepts 25 teachers into the teaching program.  Each teacher is given hands-on training that can be used for Yoga Alliance CEs, a complimentary unlimited class pass to a partner yoga studio, complimentary registration for the National Kids Yoga Conference, complimentary professional development opportunities, and more fun perks along the way!
To become a teacher with YoKid you should have previous yoga experience, a passion for working with children/teens and, upon acceptance, fulfill the following requirements:

  • Complete an application, including background check
  • Attend one monthly teacher meeting
  • Participate in a total of 10 hours of open office service projects OR Volunteering for a specific service project
  • Participate in a screening and orientation session
  • Attend a specialized teacher specific training over one weekend
  • Availability to teach 1 or 2 kids/teen classes per week between 2:00pm and 5:00pm

Candidates must apply seasonally for the Fall season, Winter season, or both seasons.  The Fall season commitment is from September to December, and the Winter season commitment is from January to June.
